The Varsity Baseball field has undergone many changes in the last five years. From removing and reseeding the soil to installing light posts, there is no question that it has been evolving in the best ways. These latest renovations, which have culminated in a long-term improvement of the field, are sure to bring an enjoyable baseball experience to more people than just the players.
As many students might remember, the old press box for the St. Christopher’s Sports Information Department (SID) was in need of an update. One could even go so far as to say it looked like “a duck blind” on campus. However, the SID team is now ecstatic to broadcast from its brand new, state-of-the-art press box above Jacobs Field. It’s equipped with Wi-Fi, air condi-tioning and a much brighter in-terior than before. This setup is sure to help increase the quality of SID streams for Varsity and JV Baseball with better lighting and angles. The structure is dedicated to Harrison Coble ’21, who was a beloved member of the STC community. In the words of Athletic Director Mr. Ren O’Ferrall ’85, “He was an artist, a good athlete, a good teammate and a good friend.” Coble left a profound impact on his peers, teachers, school life and the baseball program. He played all four years in the Upper School, then went on to compete at the collegiate level for the Universi-ty of Pittsburgh and Randolph Macon College.
We are extremely fortunate as a school community to have another beautiful space on our campus. For years to come, this press box will continue to serve the SID team, baseball fans and the memory of Harrison Coble.
