We started the day with team building activities starting small and building outwards. It may have been the height of my egotism when I challenged Sutton Olesen to a game of Head, Shoulders, Cup. This was one of the many challenges and team building events. Others included building paper airplanes and playing yard games. However, Head, Shoulders, Cup is a game of reaction speed, a skill I found myself an expert in thanks to my valiant victory over my friend. In my moment of immortality, I challenged Sutton Olesen. This was a lack of forethought because Sutton was a senior and my friend was a freshman. I was humbled quickly when Sutton swept me 3-0.
But all was not lost, for we came to Peak Experiences. The place was not large but it contained many rock walls of varying difficulty. While I was not prepared for rock climbing I expected a newfound talent. I had made a slight assumption and upon reaching a bold few feet off the ground I looked down and found the ground was a far better place to be. I descended to the floor slowly and after my brief rock climbing career I decided I was better suited to be an observer, not a climber.
After the Peak, many seniors parted ways, as Varsity Soccer and Varsity Football had games - congratulations to their respective victories. We then came to Roslyn, where we had a cookout style lunch and played more yard games.
Still, I was not humbled, so I set out to play in rugger, a game resembling lacrosse, rugby and soccer. Initially, I went to play offensively, but as I continued to be blocked, I decided to move to the defensive side of the field, where I made one defensive save. However, when we came back to the food court, there was no water. An even greater lack of thought was a matter of buses, which had left with the Varsity players, leaving us with only one bus.
Despite all of this, the day was not truly lost because when we came back, there were drinks and we had half an hour before athletics. So despite my many humbling experiences, the day was enjoyable, and I look forward to the freshmen who will enjoy it next year.
