A Bounty of New Teachers: The New Teachers of The ’25-’26 School Year
Mr. Ian Squires might just look like an ordinary teacher to the naked eye, but he is much more exciting and thrilling than you would think.
You may have seen Mr. Squires before, as he has been a wrestling coach at STC for more than eight years. He teaches health to freshmen and sophomores because he believes that “health is a topic that you will carry with you for the rest of your life if you can understand it well.” Additionally, he aims to teach the youth how to “learn and grow through life.” Mr. Squires describes his own teaching style as “conversation sparking” and he aims to "relate to students.”
Mr. Squires has been a teacher for a while. Before he started teaching at STC, he taught at Shirley Heim Middle School in Stafford County for four years and coached wrestling at Colonial Forge High School (his alma mater). After that, he bounced around through many schools, including Hanover High School, Mechanicsville High School, Bell Creek Middle School and Oak Knoll Middle School in Hanover County for another eight years.
Mr. Squires now has two kids in the lower school in first and third grade, and his wife teaches in the Little Saints program there. He wants to get his family more involved by going to breakfast every day. going to sporting and art events, and participating in any other activities the STC community offers.
A goal he wants to achieve at STC is getting another state title for the wrestling team. Mr. Squires went to the University of Maryland for college. He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology (human movement) because he was aspiring to be a physical therapist at the time. Additionally, he got a master's degree in education from the University of Arkansas. Overall, Mr. Squires is a highly accomplished individual, and you should reach out to him for any life advice or just to say hello and chat.
