The 2024-25 Varsity Basketball team had many ups and downs. Their season started off with losses to Atlee (in a scrimmage) and St. Michael the Archangel 47-56 in the regular-season opener. In spite of these defeats, the Saints quickly rebounded for a 61-45 win against Norfolk Academy.
This win sparked a 13-game winning streak, during which they racked up a number of commanding victories and won the mid-season tournament. Even though, according to Collin Johnson ’26, “The season got off to a rough start, after a few games we started to believe in our team and our abilities… and we took off from there.” The team was led by star player Darius Gray ’26, who averaged a double-double throughout the season and had multiple 30-point outbursts. Along with monster numbers, Gray won Prep League Co-Player of the Year alongside Chance Mallory from Saint Anne’s Belfield. Other notable players recognized by the Prep League include EB Brandon ’26 and Stuart Cosby ’25.
In the postseason, the Saints ultimately fell short in the VISAA Quarterfinals with a 59-85 loss against number-two-seeded Highland in the second round. All in all, it was a very solid season from the Saints.
